Fitness Friday – Supply Boosting Lactation Cookies!!!
Fitness Friday on Saturday because I couldn’t get my shit together yesterday. I’m pretty sure my son is trying to see how exhausted he can make me before I completely lose my mind. Mombie is a real. The struggle is real and I’m pretty sure I’m being punished for something. What? I have no idea. So let’s talk milk supply boosting lactation cookies.
I had this vision in my head that as soon as the boy turned one, he would just switch to milk no problems. So what do I do? I jump head first into a nutrition challenge and my milk took a hit. Apparently he didn’t get the cows milk memo and my supply wasn’t enough. I went to the amazing world of social media and asked for boobie advice. Someone mentioned lactation cookies and who doesn’t love cookies?? Off I went to Pinterest to find a lactation cookie recipe. I found one but I had to change the ingredients a little bit because health.
Lactation Cookies Recipe
Makes 30 cookies
Ingredients:
1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
1/2 cup coconut oil softened 1/3 cup sugar (the real recipe called for 1 cup) 1/4 + 2 TBSP Splenda Brown Sugar 1/4 cup of water 2 tbsp flaxseed meal 2 large egs 1 tsp vanilla extract 2 cups whole wheat flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 3 cups Old Fashion Oats (ingredient for milk production)
3/4 cup chocolate chips 1/4 Brewer’s Yeast (ingredient for milk production) 10 fenugreek capsules -empty capsules and discard (ingredient for milk production)
This is an adapted recipe from here. I cut out the brown sugar and cut the regular sugar way down. It’s unnecessary in my opinion.
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Mix flaxseed meal and water.
Mix dry ingredients together, set aside.
Blend wet ingredients together.
Add in dry mixture in 3 equal parts, then stir in oats and chocolate chips.
Drop on a baking sheet, 1 inch apart.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until the tops look matte.
These things are amazing. I typically eat 1-2 throughout the day, with my meals. Within 48 hours, I went from pumping 2 oz to 5 oz of milk on top of keeping up with the boy’s demands. The only downside is the fenugreek makes me smell like a f&*king stack of pancakes with maple syrup on top. Spray deodorant is your friend if you’re not into that sort of stuff.
My honest opinion – if you don’t want to worry about milk supply, don’t diet. Wait until your nursing relationship has ended and then go on your merry way. There are plenty of other things to worry about without adding your milk supply to that list.
Have a great weekend!
