3 Habits to Live a Healthier Lifestyle

Let’s talk about healthy habits. Nothing diet or exercise specific; just some simple lifestyle changes that can reap major benefits in the long run.

Limit your screen time; get more rest

Let’s face it. Screens are a part of our lifestyle but they're supposed to improve our quality of life, not take away from it. Having quality rest is essential to your health. However, steadily being plugged into our devices can cause some disruptions.

According to the National Sleep Foundation, approximately 90% of Americans admit to using some form of tech(phone, tablet, computer, etc.) within an hour before bed. Research has also shown that adults spend about 11 hours a day on a screen, and most experience restless sleep due to the blue light exposure from this.

Limiting your screen time a little each day can work wonders for your sleep. The entire family can benefit from having designated device-free time a few hours before bedtime and in the mornings. Incorporating melatonin into your supplements into your nightly routine can help as well.

Start journaling

Stress can cause problems, both mentally and physically. Journaling has evolved so much since your middle school lock diary. Aside from dishing about the day’s events, you can also use your journal to track self-care, express gratitude, or simply doodling! This new habit can encourage mindfulness; actively engaging and acknowledging your thoughts. The process of customizing your journal could be its own form of relaxation.

The Amplify Challenge for June was journaling for 10 minutes a day. A daily prompt was provided to the community and the benefits were great which leads me to my final point.

Surround yourself with a positive support group

Even in a socially distant world, human interaction is important. According to the Mayo Clinic, surrounding yourself with a supportive group of friends can reduce stress and discourage unhealthy habits. Our Amplify community is full of awesome and supportive people who are always open to welcoming new faces. Are you already a part of a fantastic group?

Try to incorporate new hobbies or healthy habits for everyone to try. A book club, cooking classes, or working out could be great team building activities to keep your friend group thriving. You'll begin to realize that fitness is just a small part of our holistic approach to health and wellness.
